Hosting is one of those things most tradespeople never think about until something goes wrong. But it has a direct impact on how fast your website loads, how often it is available to visitors, and how well it ranks on Google.
Here is what you need to know.
What Is Website Hosting?
Your website is made up of files: pages, images, code. Those files need to live somewhere so that people on the internet can access them. Website hosting is the service that stores those files and serves them to anyone who visits your site.
Think of it like renting space on a server. When someone types your web address into their browser, their computer connects to that server and retrieves your website files. How fast and reliably that happens depends on the quality of your hosting.
Why Hosting Quality Matters
Speed. Cheap or overcrowded hosting leads to slow loading times. If your site takes more than two to three seconds to load, visitors leave before they see anything. Google also uses loading speed as a ranking factor. Slow hosting directly hurts your SEO.
Uptime. Good hosting providers guarantee that your site is available at least 99.9 percent of the time. Cheap providers may have more downtime, meaning potential customers land on an error page instead of your website.
Security. Reputable hosting providers include SSL certificates (the padlock in the browser bar), keep their servers updated, and have protections against common attacks. Without an SSL certificate, Google flags your site as potentially unsafe, which hurts both trust and ranking.
Types of Hosting
You do not need to know all the technical details, but it helps to understand the basic categories:
Shared hosting. Your website shares a server with hundreds or thousands of other websites. It is cheap, typically a few euros a month, but can be slow if the server is busy and you have less control over performance.
Managed hosting platforms. These platforms host static websites extremely efficiently. Fast, secure, and reliable. This is what we use at ProBizMate for all client sites and it is an excellent choice for trade websites.
Dedicated or VPS hosting. Your site gets its own server or a dedicated portion of one. More control, better performance, but more expensive and usually overkill for a trade website.
What Should You Pay for Hosting in Ireland?
For a trade website, you should expect to pay between €20 and €100 per month for hosting depending on what is included.
At the lower end, €29 per month covers reliable, fast hosting with an SSL certificate and uptime monitoring. That is a reasonable baseline.
At the higher end, €99 per month for hosting combined with minor content updates, a monthly blog post, rank tracking, and Google Business Profile management represents genuine ongoing value. That is an active SEO service, not just hosting.
What you should not pay for is €100 to €200 per month just for basic hosting with nothing else included. Some agencies charge this and it is not justified for a straightforward trade website.
What to Watch Out For
Being locked in. Some hosting providers or web developers keep ownership of your website files and your domain. If you ever want to move, you cannot. Always make sure you own your domain and that your website files can be transferred.
Introductory rates that jump. Some hosting providers offer a cheap first year and then double or triple the price on renewal. Check what the renewal rate is before you sign up.
No SSL included. An SSL certificate should be included in any hosting package in 2025. If it costs extra, that is not a good sign.
Vague or non-existent uptime guarantees. Reputable providers will tell you their uptime guarantee. If no one can tell you what it is, be cautious.
The Bottom Line
Hosting is not something to scrimp on, but it should not be a major expense either. For a trade website, reliable managed hosting with an SSL certificate is all you need. Pay a fair price for that, make sure you own your domain, and make sure the price will not double after year one.
At ProBizMate, hosting is included in all our monthly plans starting at €29 per month.
