Most Irish painters have no online presence. They have no website. They don’t appear on Google. They rely on word of mouth, Facebook, or nothing. Every month, people in their town search for a painter on Google. These painters never see those searches.
Getting more painting jobs from Google requires no paid ads. You don’t pay per click. You pay once for a website. You do SEO work. You get leads. Forever.
This is not complicated. It’s not mysterious. It’s a system that works if you follow it.
Most Painters Have No Online Presence
Look at your local area. Search “painter [your town]” on Google. How many results come up? Probably very few. Most painters in Ireland are invisible on Google.
Now think about how many people search for a painter every month in your town. Dozens? Hundreds? Every one of those searches is a potential job. Every one of those searches goes to a painter with a Google presence.
This is the reality. You’re leaving money on the table every single day.
Step One: Google Business Profile Setup
This is free and non-negotiable. Create a Google Business Profile immediately if you don’t have one.
Go to google.com/business. Sign in with your Google account. Create a new business profile.
Your business name should be your actual name or business name. “Sarah’s Painting” or “Cork Decorators”. Keep it simple.
Your primary category is “Painter”. This is crucial.
Add secondary categories: “Interior Designer”, “Renovation Company”. Whatever applies to you.
Your service area should be specific. If you paint in Cork, set Cork. If you cover Cork and surrounding areas, set them. Be honest. Google penalizes false service areas.
Your phone number must be correct and clickable. This is how people book.
Upload high-quality photos. This is your biggest advantage as a painter. Photos of your completed work. Before-and-after photos. Photos of your van. Your team. Your office. Update photos regularly. These photos appear in Google search results.
Write a description: “Professional painter and decorator serving Cork and surrounding areas. Interior and exterior painting. Residential and commercial. Fully insured. Free quotes. 15 years experience.”
List every service. Interior painting, exterior painting, commercial painting, feature walls, wallpapering. Detail matters.
Make your hours accurate. Update them for holidays.
Step Two: Website Structure For Local SEO
A Google Business Profile alone doesn’t rank well for specific keywords. You need a website.
Create a homepage that clearly states what you do. “Professional Painting Services in Dublin” and “Interior and Exterior Painter Available for Residential and Commercial Work”.
Create service pages. A page for interior painting. A page for exterior painting. A page for commercial painting. Each page targets a local keyword. “Interior Painter Dublin”.
Each service page should:
Target a specific keyword with local modifier.
Explain the service clearly.
Include photos of your work.
Include a call-to-action button.
Mention your service area.
Add your phone number.
Create an about page. Your story. Your experience. Your qualifications.
Add a portfolio page with high-quality before-and-after photos.
Create a contact page with a form and your phone number.
Add a blog. Write about painting trends, colors, seasonal tips. These posts rank for long-tail keywords and drive traffic.
Your website must work well on mobile. Most painting searches happen on phones. Test it on your phone regularly.
Step Three: Seasonal Keywords And Timing
Painters have seasonal search patterns. Spring and early summer people search for exterior painting. Winter people search for interior painting before Christmas.
Create content targeting seasonal keywords in advance.
In January and February, write about spring exterior painting. “Spring Painting Checklist for Dublin Homes” or “Prepare Your Exterior for Summer Painting”.
In August and September, write about Christmas decorating. “Interior Painting Ideas for Christmas Decorating” or “Refresh Your Home Before the Holidays”.
In March and April, write about spring updates. “Spring is the Perfect Time to Repaint Your Home”.
These posts rank for seasonal searches. You capture traffic when people are searching and ready to hire.
Step Four: Get Reviews On Completed Jobs
Reviews are ranking signals. They’re also proof of your work quality.
After every job, ask for a Google review. Timing matters. Ask when the work is fresh and the customer is happy.
Send a text or email: “Thanks for letting us paint your home. We’d love a Google review if you were happy with the work. Here’s the link: [link]”. Keep it simple.
Most customers won’t review. That’s normal. If you ask 10 customers, two or three will review. Over time, this adds up.
Respond to every review. Thank people for positive reviews. For negative reviews, respond professionally. Offer to fix problems. This conversation is public. Everyone sees how you handle criticism.
Target 12 reviews in your first year. That’s one per month. Achievable. After 12 reviews, you’re competitive. After 24, you’re strong locally.
Step Five: Create Location-Specific Pages
If you cover multiple towns or counties, create pages for each area.
“Painting Services Dublin”, “Painting Services Cork”, “Painting Services Limerick”. Each page targets people searching for painters in that specific area.
Each location page should:
Mention the town or county specifically.
List postcodes if relevant.
Include local photos if possible.
Include your service area map if you have one.
Include a call-to-action.
These pages rank for “[town] painter” searches. They also show customers you’re established in their area.
Step Six: Mobile Optimization Is Critical
Most searches for painters happen on mobile phones.
Your phone number should be clickable on mobile. One tap and they call.
Your call-to-action buttons should be large and easy to tap.
Text should be readable on a small screen. Font size matters.
Images should load fast. Large images slow your site down. Google penalizes slow sites.
Your navigation should be simple. Not complicated menus.
Test your website on your phone every week. Fix what’s broken.
Google ranks mobile-first now. If your site doesn’t work on mobile, you won’t rank well.
How Long Does This Take?
SEO takes time. Most painters see results within 4-8 weeks from their Google Business Profile. Your website ranking takes longer, typically 3-6 months.
You’ll start getting inquiries from Google Business Profile first. Google Business Profile moves fast.
Your website will take longer to rank. But once it ranks, it’s stable. You get traffic every month.
The key is consistency. Update your Google Business Profile regularly. Ask for reviews. Add new photos. Write blog posts. The longer you do this, the stronger your presence becomes.
Start this week. Don’t wait. Set up your Google Business Profile today. Launch a basic website. Ask your current customers for reviews. These are free and take hours, not days.
What To Avoid
Don’t use fake reviews or pay for reviews. Google detects this. You’ll get penalized or delisted.
Don’t set a false service area to try to rank everywhere. Google verifies this. You’ll get downranked.
Don’t ignore negative reviews. Respond professionally.
Don’t skip mobile optimization. Mobile is 70 percent of searches.
Don’t stuff keywords into your business name. It’s spam and Google penalizes it.
Don’t go months without new photos or updates. Active businesses rank higher.
Getting more painting jobs from Google is achievable for every Irish painter. Set up your Google Business Profile correctly. Build a website that targets local keywords. Get reviews. Create seasonal content. Optimize for mobile.
Start today. The longer you wait, the further behind you get while other painters establish their online presence.
